Achieving Dolby Atmos with the Sonos Arc

Achieving Dolby Atmos with the Sonos Arc

Trying to achieve Dolby Atmos with your Sonos Arc? Our serving happiness team is here to help you through it. Here’s a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to make full use of your amazing Sonos Arc.

Now, what is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is an object-based format for surround sound that designates different sounds to specific places in the room, rather than channels.

This essentially creates a more realistic experience by dynamically incorporating height, surround, and front channels - that’s how you get that sound that more than surrounds you, but envelopes you. ( Yes, it’s ‘All around you’.)

There are generally 2 types of Dolby Atmos formats:

  1. Dolby TrueHD (lossless version)
  2. Dolby Digital Plus (lossy version)

How do you achieve Dolby Atmos with Sonos Arc?

You’ll need 2 things!

  1. TV that supports Dolby Atmos in the form of Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital Plus

  2. TV that has either HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC port

How to check if you’re experiencing Dolby Atmos on your Sonos Arc?

Open your Sonos app and click on the room where your Arc is in. Then, you’ll be able to see the format that your Arc is receiving from your TV.

If you aren’t experiencing Dolby Atmos, you might want to check if your TV has any settings that need to be turned on to enable it. Oh, and ensure that you’re actually watching Dolby Atmos content!
